I think the best answer is quite simple. NEVER spend more time talking about yourself than you talk about others. You need to give your audience a reason to pay attention to you - if you don't they won't hear your message.

I recommend having at least three things about others for every one thing about yourself. This ensures that your audience pays attention to you for your relevant information and doesn't choose to ignore you because you only talk about yourself.
